That's an excellent lesson. Slamming on the brakes in wet, snowy, or icy conditions can cause your vehicle to skid or lose control. Instead, it's better to gently apply steady pressure to the brakes. If your vehicle is equipped with anti-lock brakes (ABS), you'll feel a pulsating sensation, which is normal and indicates that the ABS is working to prevent wheel lockup.

In addition to braking techniques, here are a few more tips for driving in adverse weather conditions:

    1. **Increase Following Distance:** Allow more space between you and the vehicle in front of you. This gives you more time to react if they stop suddenly.

    2. **Reduce Speed:** Drive slower than usual to give yourself more time to respond to any unexpected situations.

    3. **Steer Gently:** Avoid sharp turns and sudden movements, which can lead to skidding.

    4. **Stay Calm:** If you start to skid, remain calm and steer in the direction you want the front of the car to go. Avoid overcorrecting.

    5. **Know Your Vehicle:** Familiarize yourself with how your vehicle responds in different conditions, especially if it's equipped with features like traction control or stability assistance.

Driving cautiously and being prepared for changing road conditions can help prevent accidents in slick conditions.

I think most of us have bicycle accidents. Mine was that I didn't have a helmet on my head but I fall from a high slope, I was surprised to land on a sand. That's a miracle.

Never drive out without your helmet. I've seen a lot of people whom could have lost their lives in a bike accident but it was their helmet that saved them.

  • Yes, I was in a car accident years ago. It was my birthday. We were heading to a restaurant for my birthday dinner. The jeepney, a common form of public transport here, lost its brakes, resulting in the driver losing control. He hit the passenger side of the car. Thankfully, my injuries weren't serious. The impact made walking all day incredibly difficult.

I'm sorry to hear about your accident. It sounds like a very frightening experience, especially on what was supposed to be a celebratory day. It's fortunate that your injuries weren't serious, but it must have been challenging to deal with the aftermath, both physically and emotionally. If you want to talk more about how you've been coping since then or if there's anything specific you'd like to discuss, feel free to share.

Yeah, I learnt it that day. I would have suffered a head injury if I didn't landed on that sand. I have made it compulsory to have helmet with while driving. It's the same as having seatbelt in a car.

No, not on cars but on motorbikes multiple times but thankfully those accidents were not very bad.

It sounds like you've had some experiences with motorbike accidents. It's great to hear that they weren't very serious. Staying safe on the road is crucial, so always make sure to wear the appropriate protective gear and ride cautiously. If you have any specific questions or need tips about motorbike safety, feel free to ask!

This is actually why driving anything that runs on two wheels is always very difficult for me because I know that the balance is not always stable compared to a car with 4 wheels.
